He began skiing at the age of three. (Athlete, 11 May 2021)

He honestly doesn't really know how skiing became his sport, confirming that no one in his family holds a similar passion for ski racing. "I actually learned to surf before I could ski. I've always been someone who's loved sports, any sport has been a good sport for me, and I think skiing was just the one that I liked the most when I picked it, so I just followed that progression." (msubobcats.com)

What excites him most about skiing was the adventure and the unknown of the sport. "Every day skiing and ski racing is different, whether from conditions, courses, the people you're with, the list goes on. But that ever changing environment that pushed me on so many different levels drove me and excited me about skiing from a very young age." (Athlete, 11 May 2021)

OLYMPIC GOALS
"I have had a dream of competing as an Alpine skier in a Winter Olympics for as long as I can remember, setting the goal and on the way to achieving my dreams of being an Olympian. Regardless of the many changes throughout my life, skiing has always been the one thing that I refused to let go of." (asf.org.au)

SPORT
"Sport is a place for people to pursue greatness far beyond what is expected in normal life. It is a vessel for people to learn about themselves and who they really are all while striving for perfection." (Athlete, 11 May 2021)

General Interest

IMPORTANCE OF MOVE TO THE USA
In order to progress in the sport, he had to relocate from Australia to the United States of America to train. As part of his training with the USA Ski Team, he receives high-performance on-snow coaching, strength and conditioning, ski servicing and access to the best training venues in the United States, and internationally during their year-round program. (mthotham.com.au, 13 Sep 2018)

"That was a huge, huge change for me because my family is still in Australia. Moving halfway across the world by yourself is definitely a big step but one that I wanted to make because of my passion for the sport. To progress in the sport, I knew it was a necessary step. It was tough at first, being away from the family for so long, but it was one that made sense to make and I haven't looked back." (msubobcats.org)

MONTANA STATE UNIVERSITY
Recruited by Montana State University (Bozeman, MT, USA), right out of high school, for his character, work ethic and potential, but had to wait for a year before he joined the program. (bozemandailychronicle.com, 7 Mar 2020)

EXPECTATIONS
"I have always found it interesting that in sport people are expected to be great and to achieve, but often those same people that expect the most out of athletes don't often give the most to the athletes. It fascinates me that the playing field in sport is almost never equal, yet we expect people to perform as though it is." (Athlete, 11 May 2021)
