Psychology - University of Aberdeen (GBR).
She is supported both by the university and the Winning Students Scotland program. Earlier in her career, she had secured a spot to study biomedical science, but deferred that for several years to focus on skiing. "When I look back (that) was pretty bold." March 2021: Revealed she suffered from rheumatoid arthritis, specifically palindromic rheumatism. “I think one of the biggest challenges for me was psychologically getting it into my head that I had to start medication. To begin with I was very resistant to it because it felt like admitting defeat. But I found out that Venus Williams has a similar syndrome, in terms of how it operates on the body, and I thought if she can do it, there’s no reason why I can’t do it too.” (time-series-co.uk, 18 Mar 2021)

October 2015: She sustained a herniated disc in her spinal cord and was unable to ski for six weeks, returning to racing in mid-November 2015. (dailyrecord.co.uk, 26 Jun 2016)

22 November 2014: Fractured four vertebrae as a result of hitting a boulder during giant slalom training in Funasdalen, located in a very remote region of Sweden. She spent eight hours on a spinal board travelling 250km to a hospital in Oestersund. At the insistence of her coach, she was wearing a back protector during the training session, which she credits with saving her from further injury. "I was pretty terrified about how serious my injuries were. Whilst I'm devastated that I am going to have to take time out to recover, I realise how extremely lucky I am that my injuries are not more severe. I owe my coach Stefan (Moser) the biggest thank you of my life for his insistence that I wear my back protector." The accident nearly ended her career but she returned to racing in February 2015. She was introduced to skiing at the age of three on the slopes of the Nethy Bridge golf course in the Scottish Highlands (GBR) near her grandmother's house. In 2006, at the age of 12, she attended the British Ski Academy in France on a scholarship for six weeks. At 14, she became the first British girl to win an international children's race when she was first in slalom and third in giant slalom at Trofeo Topolino. "My grandparents lived near Cairngorm in the Highlands, so as soon as I could carry my own skis I was allowed to head up to Cairngorm Mountain with my parents." Tennis player and Olympic champion Serena Williams (USA). "Serena Williams has been an inspiration for my entire career, as I started to understand gender equality and what it really means – that women are not only treated the same as men in the here and now, but they are offered the same opportunities, earning potentials, time, publicity, opinions and so on – she was one of the biggest voices. Every time she steps out on court, she puts sport, not just women's sport, distinctly on the map and shows every female sportsperson out there to fight for what you deserve." General Interest

MENTAL HEALTH
After the 2018 Olympic season, she talked about her struggles with mental health in a blog post. “Beyond anything else, your physical health and mental health need to come first and they’re both things I’ve struggled with massively over the last two years. Both are so intertwined. If your mental health isn’t good your body won’t respond and likewise if you’ve got a niggle and your body isn’t where it needs to be your mental health will suffer. It was so important having the GBS (GB Snowsport) structure. They got me into a clinic on Harley Street and that was life changing. Without my specialist and the support from there I wouldn’t be able to do anything I did last year and I would be out of ski racing.” (eurosport.com, 30 Dec 2019)
