Father Ken Read (Alpine skiing): Member of the famed Crazy Canucks in the 1970s. Two-time Olympian (Innsbruck 1976, Lake Placid 1980) finishing fifth in the downhill in 1976. In 10 seasons on the World Cup circuit (1974-83), he has five podium titles, and 14 podium finishes - all in downhill. The first non-European to win both the Austrian downhill Hahnenkamm (Kitzbuehel) and the Swiss race Lauberhorn (Wengen). Has become one of the most decorated sport leaders in Canadian history while working in sport at the highest level.
Mother Lynda Robbins (Alpine skiing): Competed at national level.
Younger brother Jeffery (Alpine skiing): Competed at two World Championships (2019, 2021) and four Junior World Championships (2015-18). Been on the World Cup tour since 2018 breaking into the top-20 in the 2021 super-G at Kitzbuehel (18th).
Younger brother Kevyn (Alpine skiing): Competed at the FIS level, retiring in 2016.

The mental aspect to skiing, being able to have the trust to ski fast without fear of crashing, is perhaps the most difficult part of the sport. He's learned to embrace the unknowns and surrender to it all. "Every day is unique and different. I'm a thinker. When you're skiing fast, you're not thinking.
