Her parents were both ski instructors at Buck Hill, south of Minneapolis. She is the youngest of three children. "The only option was ski to keep up with the family from a young age." (Athlete, 18 Aug 2021)

The independence and speed have always excited her about skiing. "I love being able to work through the challenges of being able to get faster. Someone can tell you how to be fast but you still have to do the motions all on your own. I also love how fast the sport is evolving and changing every year. There is no time to be complacent."
