Was born, and grew up initially, in Germany where he and his brother learned to ski in neighboring Austria from his mother. The brothers continued in the sport when they moved to Zagreb, eventually joining the Croatian national team. (story.hr, 6 Feb 2021)

TRAINING UNDER A LEGENDARY COACH
Along with brother Elias, he skied under the direction of legendary Croatian coach Ante Kostelic, the father of Olympic champions Ivica and Janica Kostelic, from April 2017 until his retirement in April 2021 at the age of 82. (fis-ski.com, 24 Apr 2017; croatiaweek.com, 25 Apr 2021)
“The toughest part of training was my first season with him [Ante Kostelic] when everything was new for me and I didn’t know exactly how it was going to work. I had to adapt to his methods. But once I got in the zone, I realized how everything was done and how everything should be.
