OLYMPIC HISTORY
Aged 41 years, 29 days, he became the oldest Olympic medallist in Alpine skiing, ahead of Bode Miller (USA) who won bronze in the men's super-G at Sochi 2014 at age 36. After a DNF in the downhill at Sochi 2014, he thought about giving up but continued his Olympic career. “My history is special. I’ve done a lot of things late in life: learning to walk, having my adult teeth come in (according to my mum), and getting married. So maybe, the [success in] my career has to come later too.” (olympics.com, 7 Feb 2022)

SPEED RECORD
Set World Cup speed record in 2013 at the downhill race in Wengen, with a maximum speed of 161.9 km/h (100.6 mph) at the Haneggschuss, the fastest section of the Lauberhorn slope. (skiracing.com, 19 Jan 2013)
