In December 2005, after a year and a half in an orphanage in Haiti, he was adopted by an Italian couple living near Briancon in France. Immediately put on skis by his father, the young Franco-Italian-Haitian climbed all the levels to the international level. "I arrived in France at the age of three, and my parents from the mountains immediately put me on skis. I saw the snow which I called "white powder."

He continued to pursue the sport with aspirations of racing for France. But at the age of 16, he received a call from the Haitian Ski Federation offering him an opportunity to ski under the colors of his native Haiti. “I didn't believe it. I thought it was a joke from a friend. At the end of the call, I did some research on the internet and discovered that there was indeed a ski federation in Haiti. A few days later, I called him back and then we met him with my parents." (olympics.com, 3 Dec 2021; Athlete, 19 Jan 2022)

CHANGE OF NATION
In November 2019 the International Ski Federation approved a change of nationality from France to Haiti. HAITI SKI FEDERATION
The Haitian Ski Federation was formed in 2010 by Haitian native Jean Pierre Roy, known as Rasta Piquet, and French ski coach Thierry Montillet. Roy has competed in six World Championships (2011-21). The federation was founded following the Haitian earthquake in 2010 on the principle of: Communicate positively about Haiti, Motivate Haitians to surpass themselves thanks to the strength of the values of sport and participate in the restarting of the country after the 2010 earthquake: Haiti standing up. Since then, the federation has actively recruited athletes of Haitian descent. (FHS - Federation Haitienne de Ski Facebook)
