Father Felix McGrath (Alpine skiing): Represented the United States at the 1987 World Championships and Calgary 1988 Olympic Winter Games (13th in giant slalom). Competed on the World Cup circuit from 1984-90, with a best finish of second in Are in 1988 in the slalom (behind Italian Alberto Tomba). Has spent his working career coaching in both the United States (former head Alpine coach at the University of Vermont and more recently the sports director of the Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont) and Norway.

January 2021: Tore the medial collateral ligament (MCL) in his left knee as the result of a crash during a World Cup giant slalom in Adelboden. He underwent surgery in Norway. Milestones

Competed at three Junior World Championships (2018-20) winning Alpine combined silver in 2019 in Val di Fassa, and was in a three-way tie for fourth in the downhill, 0.02 seconds from a medal (and 0.25 seconds from gold).

Skied his first World Cup race at 18, scored his first World Cup points at 19, and captured his first World Cup podium at 20 (giant slalom in 2020 in Alta Badia, 0.07 seconds behind winner France's Alexis Pinturault). Wearing bib 29 he posted the fourth-fastest time in the first run, and improved on that by taking the lead in the second. He had not finished in the World Cup top-10 in 13 previous starts.
