When he was a young boy, his family would vacation in the mountains. His father was a skier and at the age of four, he began skiing - at first on his father's shoulders or in his arms, then later on skis. He grew up in Bucharest but when he gained an interest in skiing, his family moved to Azuga in the mountains to provide him with a better opportunity to train.
