Father Sepp Ferstl (Alpine skiing): Competed at the 1976 and 1980 Olympic Winter Games for West Germany. In his career he took three World Cup victories, including two wins in the Hahnenkamm at Kitzbuehel, in 1978 and 1979.
2003 FIS event in Kaunertal (Slalom - 37th)
2007 World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Downhill - 53rd)
January 2022: Cuts and bruises as a result of a crash in the first training session for the Hahnenkamm downhill at Kitzbuehel. Transported off the course by helicopter, but returned to race on the weekend. (nwsrnd.com, 19 Jan 2022)
February 2021: Hip and ankle injuries after a high speed crash in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen super-G World Cup. Initially thought to be out for the season, but returned a month later. (skiracing.com, 5 Feb 2021)
December 2015: Torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in the World Cup downhill at Santa Caterina, ending his 2015/16 season. Returned to racing in December 2016. (newsbeezer.com, 28 Jan 2019)
December 2012: Suffered facial cuts, broken teeth and a nasal bone injury as a result of a crash in the World Cup super-G at Beaver Creek. Out of action for about five weeks, returning to race at Wengen in mid-January 2013.
Began skiing at an early age, growing up in a skiing household with his father, Sepp, a great champion in the sport.
"I always liked skiing because it was fun."
His father, Hahnenkamm champion Sepp Ferstl: "Papa supports me everywhere, he has done so much for me. A joke that he would have said 'you've got to win Kitzbuehel.' He just wanted the best, that was not an issue at all. He never forced me into anything and did not really push me. Nothing works by pressure. As you can see, it has to happen."
