January 2016: Knee injury during a training run for the Kitzbuehel World Cup downhill including a capsular rupture to his left knee, a partial tear to the syndesmosis ligament of his left ankle and a fractured lunar bone in his left hand. Underwent surgery and was out of action for nearly two months, returning in March at Kvitfjell. (hahnenkamm.com, 19 Jan 2016)
1 December 2012: Severe facial lacerations and a concussion as a result of a fall in the Beaver Creek World Cup super-G. Returned to racing six weeks later at Wengen. (kleinezeitung.at, 4 Dec 2012)

His debut World Cup win on 12 December 2016 in the Val Gardena downhill came just 11 months after being sidelined with a knee injury from a downhill training crash at the Kitzbuehel World Cup.
